Why is this the first-ever LAN World Championship?

While the CoD Mobile World Championship was introduced back in 2020, this will be the first complete World Finals for the mobile shooter game.

This is because the past two editions were affected by the COVID-19 pandemic.

The 2020 World Championship Finals were canceled altogether because of the virulent virus. Activision didn’t hold it as an online event because of the ping disparity teams would face from around the world. The $750,000 prize pool was distributed evenly between the eight qualified teams.

While this came as a huge disappointment to CoD Mobile fans, Activision brought the world championship back for the 2021 edition. This year’s World Championship Finals were also supposed to be a LAN event.

However, due to the spread of the Omicron variant of COVID-19, Activision again couldn’t hold the offline competition. Instead of canceling the tournament altogether, the World Championship Finals were split into the East and West to decrease the ping disparity.

Twelve teams competed in each region with a cumulative prize pool of $2 million which was evenly divided between the East and the West. In the West, North America’s Tribe Gaming were crowned the champions. In the East, on the other hand, the Philippines’ Blacklist Ultimate put up a dominant performance to take first place.

Thus, the CoD Mobile World Championship Finals 2022 will be the first-ever global LAN event for the game. With $1.7 million on the line and a live audience, the event is set to be like no other.
